So how does it work?

What is a professional coach?

A professional coach is someone who is qualified to support, challenge, and motivate you to achieve your goals. A coach will help you take action, strategize how to overcome obstacles, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and enable you to move forward much quicker than you would on your own.

How does coaching work?

Coaching is a co-created process that focuses on goals that you identify and prioritize. Coaching is a positive, holistic learning process that focuses on behaviours, beliefs, and ways of being and exploring how those things propel us
toward success or create unnecessary barriers. Coaching involves self-examination and openness. It involves thinking about and doing things differently. Coaching helps clarify and bring to light what we want, how to get there, and how we want to be on the journey. There is a component of accountability present in coaching that can be helpful in staying focused while dealing with day-to-day distractions.

The initial consultation...

I start with a 30-minute complimentary initial consultation to discuss your reasons for
seeking coaching and mutually determine if working together is a good fit. If yes, then we’ll co-create the structure around goals, intentions, duration, and frequency of sessions.

About the sessions...

Each individual coaching session after the initial consult lasts for 60 minutes thereafter. The length of coaching engagements will depend on your needs, goals, and investment budget. Some clients need 1 - 3 sessions to gain clarity, develop a plan, and activate. Others commit to a longer coaching agreement based on navigating transitions, starting a new role, or wanting to go further to develop their leadership and/or communication skills.

What happens during a life coaching session?

Each session will start with a review of the actions in the last session. Through the use of focused, strategic, and learning questions; reflection; and values clarification; we will explore what has worked and any obstacles you have come across. Specific strategies and action steps between meetings will be used to create options that you might not have thought of before, leverage strengths in new ways, and grow skills. This may include reading, journaling,
interviewing, and activities designed to build new competencies.

Ethical considerations

Coaching and therapy are two different modalities with different purposes. Therapy is focused on addressing mental health issues, diagnosing and treating mental disorders, and improving overall psychological well-being. Coaching, on the other hand, is focused on helping individuals achieve their personal and professional goals, develop new skills, and enhance their performance. It's important to note that coaching is not a substitute for therapy and should not be used to address mental health issues. and it is the Client’s responsibility to seek such independent professional guidance as needed.

The relationship between the coach and client differs in important ways from the psychotherapy relationship. In coaching, the client sets the agenda and the success of the enterprise depends on the client’s willingness to take risks and try new approaches. The relationship is designed to be more direct and challenging. You can count on a coach to be honest and straightforward, asking powerful questions and using challenging techniques to advance you toward your goals. You are expected to evaluate progress and when coaching is not working as you wish, you should immediately inform me so we can both take steps to
correct the problem.
